Unruptured intracranial aneurysms - risk of rupture and risks of surgical intervention
Article Abstract:
Most intracranial aneurysms smaller than an inch probably will not rupture. An aneurysm occurs when the wall of an artery weakens and begins to expand outward. A study of 1,449 people with an intracranial aneurysm found that the rate of rupture in aneurysms smaller than a half-inch was less than 0.05% per year. The rate for aneurysms between a half-inch and one inch was less than 1% per year and for aneurysms bigger than an inch, the rate was 6% per year. Data on 1,172 patients treated for an aneurysm show the complications from surgery exceed the risk of rupture.

Effect of mode of delivery in nulliparous women on neonatal intracranial injury
Article Abstract:
Using force to deliver a baby may increase the risk of brain hemorrhage from an injury to the baby's skull. Forceps and vacuum extraction are two means of using an external force to deliver the baby. In a study of 583,340 deliveries, babies delivered by forceps or vacuum extraction were more likely to sustain a skull injury than those delivered naturally. Nevertheless, the risk was still relatively small. It may be certain characteristics of labor that increase this risk rather than the use of external force.
