The author discusses two genes whose mutations are involved in the onset of Alzheimer's disease, presenilin 1 and 2. Research has shown these genes involved in the development of various proteins, and this insight to their function provides an avenue of research which looks promising.

The viral infections like flu prevent the development of asthma and other atopic diseases according to 'hygiene hypothesis'. Influenza virus appears to enhance, rather than inhibit, the development of asthma and allergic responses.
