Antidepressant use in psychiatry and medicine: importance for dental practice
Article Abstract:
Dentists should ask all their patients if they are taking antidepressants. In a survey of 1,800 dental patient records, 381 of the patients (21%) were taking an antidepressant. Over half were taking an antidepressant that can produce xerostomia, or dry mouth. Sixty-seven percent were taking an antidepressant that can cause low blood pressure when the patient changes position.
