Breast screening 'unjustified' claims study
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken in Denmark has raised doubts about claims that mammography screening can cut breast cancer deaths by 25%. This research criticizes trials undertaken in New York, NY, Edinburgh, Scotland, and Sweden, and claims that even reliable trials show no benefits from screening. Pressure groups and health professionals have criticized the research. At present, 1.2 million women a year are screened for breast cancer in the UK, at a cost of 36 million pounds sterling.
