Court agrees: Calif. plan shouldn't have fired doctor
Article Abstract:
Physician Thomas W. Self was wrongly terminated from Children's Associated Medical Group, according to the verdict from a San Diego, CA, jury. The judgement sided with Self's contention that the medical group terminated his contract as a result of his decision to use a potentially more expensive diagnostic test on a 10-month-old baby even though the test is less invasive. Self wins $1.75 million in compensatory damages, and punitive damages have yet to be determined.

Antitrust rules kill network
Article Abstract:
The Justice Dept has decided not to offer antitrust clearance to Children's Healthcare P.A., a planned New Jersey physician network. The network's antitrust review request had been stalled at the agency for two years, and Robert Conroy, an attorney for the network, indicated that most of the involved physicians had already given up on it. The ruling's significance is discussed.
