Data collection in continence care
Article Abstract:
Researchers undertaking a two year study, in 1995, of urinary continence problems, of women aged under 65 years, found it was hard to establish how changes to the services provide by the National Health Service affected the data. The Dudley Continence Project had some difficulties in deciding what measurements should be taken and they found they changed their ideas during the study. They tried to evaluate the effectiveness of changes in treatment by interviewing people. Otherwise they gathered data from a number of areas, such as admission records, the continence advisory service and nurses.

Patients approve of pre-operative assessments
Article Abstract:
Researchers examined patients' reactions to nurse-led pre-operative assessment clinics. These clinics are emerging as a response to a range of factors, including the reduction in junior doctors' hours and the need to reduce surgical waiting lists. Nurses perform tasks including assessment of the patient's suitability for surgery, administration of tests, and provision of information about the surgical procedure and the recuperative period. Interviews with 137 patients revealed that patients accept pre-operative assessment by nurses and appreciate the opportunity for discussion.
