Death on the operating table
Article Abstract:
Theatre nurses have devised a policy for the performance of last offices on patients who die during surgery. Theatre staff are responsible for patients from the accident and emergency department. However, ward staff may administer to admitted patients. Emphasis is on dignified treatment of the patient. The most appropriate nurse should administer last offices. Relatives should have unlimited access to the deceased. Other patients' needs should be considered. Only infection control or insufficient staffing are exceptions.

Heretical notions?
Article Abstract:
The 1990 NHS Act removes the disincentive for hospitals to develop quality systems by paying them for the work they actually do, rather than giving them a fixed budget based on work carried out in previous years. By treating more patients, hospitals can not only increase their revenue but cut the cost per patient. This creates an incentive for hospitals to provide quality care since this can shorten a patient's stay in hospital, thereby freeing beds for other patients to be treated.

It's all academic
Article Abstract:
Nurses lack academic credibility if they do not have a degree qualification. Medical journals are unlikely to publish the work of a nurse, regardless of the individual merit of the article, because their readers would not recognise the author as a serious contributor. Some people would argue that even degree nurses lack academic credibility because most of their profession does not have it. It is questionable whether academic credibility is an aim worth striving for.
