Demanding and in demand
Article Abstract:
Nurses are in short supply when it comes to the care of elderly patients, although the prospects of a continually aging population mean more nurses will have to be recruited into the profession. Newly qualified nurses are not being attracted into geriatric or psychiatric nursing because it is seen as not needing the skills learned through training. Community care teams should encourage nurses to join psychiatric nursing, providing an opportunity to help care for older people who have contributed so much in their lives.
