Doubts raised over leg ischaemia care
Article Abstract:
The UK study, called the BASIL trial (bypass versus angioplasty in severe ischaemia of the leg) concluded that in some cases primary amputation was the best course of management. It is found that bypass surgery in more complications, and surgeons could not always, find a suitable vein for gating, especially in older people.

General practitioners (GPs) might be allowed by the United Kingdom Department of Health to refer patients outside of their local catchment areas. The GPs may be permitted this power if the other place will provide more rapid treatment.
