[beta]-Cell ABCA1 influences insulin secretion, glucose homeostasis and response to thiazolidinedione treatment
Article Abstract:
The role of ATP-binding cassette transporter subfamily A member 1 (Abac1), a cellular cholesterol transporter, in cholesterol homeostasis and insulin secretion in [beta]-cells is examined. The analysis has shown that Abca1 has a new role in [beta]-cell cholesterol homeostasis and insulin secretion and also that cholesterol accumulation might contribute to [beta]-cell dysfunction in type 2 diabetes.

It's what you do with the fat that matters!
Article Abstract:
A study report suggest that inhibition of a key enzyme, elongation of long-chain fatty acids family member-6 (Elovl6), could protect against insulin resistance in fatty livers even with concurrent obesity. The findings could be used to develop new drugs that target ElovI6 enzyme, which might lead to better glucose regulation in obese, insulin-resistant humans.
