HSC goes public on railway regulation
Article Abstract:
The UK Health and Safety Commission (HSC) is already requesting comments on 'Ensuring safety on Britain's railways', its report for the government, because of the short consultation period following publication of draft regulations, expected in summer-1993, and their implementation. The HSC report makes thirty eight recommendations with a view to safety on the railway once British Rail becomes a private company.

Risk watch: safety stoppage law
Article Abstract:
Employees are now covered by a law that protects them from dismissal or disciplinary action if they refuse to take safety risks, such as doctors refusing to work excessively long hours. This follows the recent signalmen's dispute and the assertion by the RMT that Railtrack's use of managers and supervisors to opeate signalling equipment during the strikes compromised railway safety.
