HSV-specific T cells contribute to vaginal immunity
Article Abstract:
Researchers at Southern Illinois University examined the influence of T cells in the mucosal immunity to herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). Although proliferating T cells are lowered, major histocompatibility complex class II antigens are not significantly affected after HSV-2 infection. The results indicate that T cells' virus-specific function are still intact after the viral challenge. Moreover, resistance against vaginal reinfection are also provided by IgG viral antibody and immune T cells.

Reactivation of virus is involved in pathogenesis of Bell's palsy
Article Abstract:
Researchers at the Hokkaido University School of Medicine in Japan found that reactivated herpes simplex virus (HSV) type 1 may contribute to the pathogenesis of Bell's palsy. Using polymerase chain reaction, they analyzed the HSV type 1 content of saliva from 47 patients with Bell's palsy, 24 patients with Ramsay Hunt syndrome and 16 health seropositive subjects. The findings implied that injury or stress on the facial nerve can bring about the reactivation of HSV type 1.
