How information can reduce the negative impact of prostatectomy
Article Abstract:
Problems with urinary continence after having a prostatectomy can be very upsetting and will be experienced by 87% of men who have a radical prostatectomy. It is important men are aware of this before surgery and nurses have to tell them what is involved so they can find ways to deal with it. It is recommended that posters and booklets are freely available in doctors' surgeries and clinics. GPs should make referral letters to specialists more detailed so the diagnosis is more precise. Foreign language booklets and in braille may also be useful.
