Is it thee or me? Autoimmunity in Lyme disease
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed a technique for identifying epitopes on human cells that mimic those on infectious organisms. Lyme disease can cause continuing arthritis even though antibiotics have eradicated the bacterium that causes it. This technique could identify self-epitopes in other autoimmune diseases as well.

Molecular mimicry mediated by MHC class Ib molecules after infection with Gram-negative pathogens
Article Abstract:
An epitope on Salmonella typhimurium is presented by MHC class Ib molecules and recognized by CD8+ T lymphocytes. The same T lymphocytes cross-react with a peptide derived from heat shock protein 60. This indicates that arthritis following Salmonella infection could be caused by molecular mimicry.

Is autoimmunity coming to a Fas(t) end?
Article Abstract:
The authors discuss ongoing research intended to find a way to regulate autoimmune functions without undermining normal immune functions. In this manner, transplant rejection could be avoided with risking the health of the recipient.
