Managed care for prisoners: new spin on 'gatekeepers'?
Article Abstract:
The treatment of prisoners by managed care providers continues to increase. Such care providers provide a good solution to prisons and governments seeking to control costs and acquire better health care expertise for their prison populations. Already 300,000 inmates in the US are covered by such managed care firms, and this service garners over $500 million in annual revenue for these companies. Total annual government spending for these inmates reaches $3.5 billion and the amount should continue to increase as governments increase their crackdown on crime.
