Natural therapeutic holding
Article Abstract:
Health care professionals are usually taught to manage violent and aggressive patients via physical restraint, but natural therapeutic holding (NTH) has been developed as an alternative procedure in dealing with aggression. NTH helps prevent clients from being abused and is particularly appropriate for dealing with agressive childen. NTH involves holding the client and increasing eye contact while encouraging them to explore their anger as a means of self-management. Verbal and physical interaction is used to develop an emotional bond between the client and carer.

Twin peaks
Article Abstract:
A nurse tells the tale of a patient with learning disabilities who was reunited with his twin brother from whom he had been separated fifteen years earlier at the age of fifteen. The patient was living in an institution which was due for closure. To prepare him for living in the community he was put into a closed ward to be given special training. Once his behaviour had improved he was able to live in a purpose built bungalow with others. When it was realised that he had a brother, he was taken to visit him, a very emotional moment.
