Herbs commonly used by women: an evidence-based review

Many American women use herbal supplements, according to researchers who did a comprehensive literature search on this topic. Commonly used herbs include gingko biloba, St. John's wort, ginseng, garlic echinacea, valerian, black cohosh, and chasteberry. Some of these herbs are used to treat menopausal symptoms.

The president of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons reflects on the challenges which face the profession. Efforts to improve the primary care skills of gynecologists should not proceed at the expense of proper training in gynecologic surgery.
