Placenta previa-percreta: magnetic resonance imaging findings and methotrexate therapy after hysterectomy
Article Abstract:
Multiple cesarean sections may contribute to placenta accreta with placenta previa. Placenta previa occurs when the placenta covers the cervical opening. Placenta percreta is a condition in which the placenta invades the muscular layer, or myometrium, of the uterus. Placenta percreta may also involve the invasion of adjacent structures. A woman who was 26 weeks pregnant was diagnosed with placenta previa as a result of an ultrasound exam for vaginal bleeding. The woman had five previous cesarean sections. An MRI scan using the Short Tau Inversion Recovery technique was performed at 33 weeks' gestation. This scan showed infiltration of the placenta into the myometrium and bladder wall. This invasion of the placenta was not indicated on a T1-weighted image. An emergency cesarean section with a partial supracervical hysterectomy was performed at 34 weeks due to heavy vaginal bleeding. The portion of the placenta that had infiltrated the bladder was not removed. Methotrexate was administered during the surgery.

Prenatal diagnosis of placenta previa accreta with power amplitude ultrasonic angiography
Article Abstract:
Power amplitude ultrasonic angiography may be effective for diagnosing placenta previa accreta in pregnant women with uterine bleeding in late pregnancy. Placenta previa accreta is the abnormal adherence of the placenta to the uterus, and can cause significant bleeding during childbirth. Doctors in Taiwan used power amplitude ultrasonic angiography to diagnose placenta accreta in a young Chinese woman. The enhanced Doppler imaging technique produced better images of blood vessels and blood flow, and may provide a useful adjunct to conventional diagnostic ultrasound.

Three-dimensional color power Doppler imaging in the assessment of uteroplacental neovascularization in placenta previa increta/percreta
Article Abstract:
Doctors describe the use of three-dimensional color Doppler imaging to visualize the blood supply in the placenta in a pregnant woman with a placental abnormality called placenta previa increta/percreta. This abnormality can cause uterine rupture, which can be life-threatening for both mother and baby.
