Researchers seek roots of resilience in children
Article Abstract:
Investigators at the Resilience in Children conference hosted by New York Academy of Sciences, examined the behavioral-psychosocial and neurobiological aspects of resilience with hopes that understanding these processes may offer clues for prevention and intervention. Pioneering studies on the interplay between genes and environment revealed that a particular variation in the gene encoding the neurotransmitter-metabolizing enzyme monoamine oxidase A influenced behavior.

Mental health in the United States: Health care and well being of children with chronic emotional, behavioral, or developmental problems- United States, 2001
Article Abstract:
Children with chronic emotional, behavioral, or developmental (EBD) problems are more likely to experience diminished health and quality of life and have problems accessing and receiving needed care. The recommendations that encourage expansions in screening and early detection of mental health problems and improvement in access, coordination, and quality of health-care services for children with EBD problems are presented.

Neurobehavioral effects of dental amalgam in children: A randomized clinical trial
Article Abstract:
Dental amalgam is a widely used restorative material containing 50% elemental mercury that emits small amounts of mercury vapor and since high levels of mercury are demonstrated to be toxic, the fact that dental amalgam induces some level of mercury exposure raised safety concerns. However, there is little or no evidence concerning health effects of low-level mercury exposure from amalgam, especially in children.
