Safety of the blood supply: there's little disease risk from having a transfusion

AIDS, in particular, has brought with it a fear of blood transfusions, but in fact there is little chance that AIDS or other blood borne diseases can be transmitted by transfusions. Both donor screening and blood treatment techniques have improved significantly since the early 1980s.
