Schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
Schizophrenia may be effectively treated by a variety of drugs. This illness involves symptoms such as social withdrawal, hallucinations, altered speech, and delusions. The most effective drugs for treating schizophrenia are antipsychotic drugs such as chlorpromazine, thioridazine, and clozapine. Decisions about using antipsychotic drugs should be based on the patient's earlier response to drugs and tendency to experience side effects, such as hypotension, restlessness, tremors, and other neurologic problems. Many of these drugs tend to be prescribed in higher doses than are necessary. Antipsychotic drugs are often prescribed with antidepressants, the sedative benzodiazepine, or antiparkinsonian drugs that reduce tremors and other muscular side effects. Drug treatment should generally be sustained for a year or more after recovery in order to reduce the risk of relapse.

Clozapine alone versus clozapine and risperidone with refectory schizophrenia
Article Abstract:
A random study on patients with schizophrenia and a poor response to the treatment with clozapine was conducted. The treatment of schizophrenia with multiple antipsychotic drugs is common but the addition of risperidone to clozapine did not improve the symptoms in patients with severe schizophrenia.
