Nurse practitioner-performed procedures
Article Abstract:
It appears that the role of nurse practitioner (NP) is continuing to evolve. More NPs are being trained to perform basic procedures in the interest of cost-effectiveness and more focused managed care. These procedures may include performing biopsies and vasectomies, putting on splints or casts, stitching wounds, draining abscesses, and placing or removing IUDs. Having NPs trained in these procedures may mean reduced patient waiting time and a more thorough explanation of the procedure.

Choosing a practice: key issues to consider
Article Abstract:
Nurse practitioners who consider the personnel they will work with, practice location, and compensation negotiation will more readily find professional success. Co-workers who share similar values and knowledge levels are the best to work with. Proximity to schools, housing and colleagues are important considerations. Compensation terms can often be negotiated.
