Streptococcus pyogenes under pressure
Article Abstract:
The contemporary strains of Streptococcus pyogenes have acquired DNase gene that has improved the virulence of the bacterium, but its expression is repressed by the control of virulence regulatory sensor (CovRS) regulatory system. The researchers have shown that the bacteria are under pressure to mutate the covRS locus in order to maintain DNase expression for invasive infection.

Sequence-dependent stimulation of the mammalian innate immune response by synthetic siRNA
Article Abstract:
A report that synthetic siRNAs formulated in nonviral delivery vehicles could be potent inducers of interferons and inflammatory cytokines both in vivo in mice and in vitro in human blood is presented. The immunostimulatory activity of formulated siRNAs and the associated toxicities are dependent on the nucleotide sequence.

Noninvasive diagnosis of liver cirrhosis using DNA sequencer-based total serum protein glycomics
Article Abstract:
Clinical glycomics technology is applied based on DNA sequencer/fragment analyzers to generate profiles of serum protein N-glycans of liver disease particles. Compensated cirrhosis was detected with 100% specificity and 75% sensitivity in combination with Fibrotest biomarker.
