Timing of antiretroviral therapy initiation in tuberculosis patients with AIDS
Article Abstract:
A decision analysis was conducted to gain insight into the optimal timing of HAART initiation in HIV-infected persons receiving antituberculosis therapy. Results reveal that high rates of immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS)-related mortality with early HAART initiation would favor deferring HAART until at least 2 months after initiation of antituberculosis therapy.

Association between insulin resistance and hepatitis C virus chronic infection in HIV-hepatitis C virus-coinfected patients undergoing antiretroviral therapy
Article Abstract:
HIV patients who are also infected with the hepatitis C virus are more likely than other HIV patients to develop insulin resistance, which is a precursor of type 2 diabetes. They are also more likely to develop abnormal fat metabolism, which has been linked to protease inhibitors.
