Psychopharmacological treatment of major depressive disorder in children and adolescents
Article Abstract:
Doctors who want to use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) to treat depression in children and teenagers should use fluoxetine or sertraline but not paroxetine. Studies have shown that SSRIs may be effective in children and teenagers but paroxetine may increase the risk of suicidal behavior. The US FDA began reviewing the safety of paroxetine for children and teenagers in June, 2003.
