Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals
Article Abstract:
The latest edition of the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals may clarify questions about publishing rights, patients' privacy rights, and descriptions of research methods. The Uniform Requirements are an attempt by the editors of 11 biomedical journals to inform prospective authors how to prepare their submissions. The Uniform Requirements do not dictate publication style, as that is the jurisdiction of individual editors. The fifth edition is the latest edition of the Uniform Requirements, published in 1997. The Requirements may be reproduced for not-for-profit use.

CONSORT: An important step toward evidence-based health care
Article Abstract:
Guidelines for preparing and reporting research studies called the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials should improve the consistency and integrity of scientific reporting. These guidelines describe in detail the format expected of published research studies. Consistent scientific reporting in smaller studies allows for better synthesized reporting in the future. These guidelines should also include a section that addresses the cost-effectiveness of the medical intervention studied. The scientific community may face challenges in implementing these guidelines.
