Integrated pollution control
Article Abstract:
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 has brought together the regulations governing the disposal of waste through water, land and air. Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution (HMIP) is now responsible for policing the act. The act sets out HMIP's responsibilities, including a description of waste products and processes needing care, their authorisation and how to apply for it. Charges are made by HMIP, and they have a responsibility to notify bodies likely to be concerned with the waste disposal.

EPA: a breakthrough for the environment; how the legal duties imposed by the Environmental Protection Act affect producers of waste
Article Abstract:
The 1990 Environmental Protection Act tightens up regulations for the disposal of waste, waste operators will now need a site licence and/or a mobile licence. Waste companies must not cause pollution or harm to health, and have a 'duty of care' towards such waste. Companies must look after the waste, check that transferees and transporters are dealing with it properly, and it is advisable that they check on the final destination.
