Recent organizational developments in Japan
Article Abstract:
Many changes are currently taking place at Japanese companies. There is growing emphasis on individual performance as a means of establishing salary levels and determining promotion, but redundancies and changing employment in the middle of a career are not common. The present recession is making employers and employees more anxious, and is prompting incremental changes which may in the long term lead to a qualitative transformation.

Is Globalization Making Us All the Same?
Article Abstract:
In his book, Sanford Jacoby emphasizes the far-reaching effects and implications of human capital beyond its role as a factor of production and a variable of competition. A caution is presented against other nations adopting the shareholder-value model of the US because of its limited interpretation of human capital.
