The effects of appraisal reviews content on employees' reactions and performance
Article Abstract:
Research into the effectiveness of employee appraisals found the appraisal system failed to lead to better performance levels from employees. The appraisal system was introduced to give employees information on managements' opinion of their performance so they could change their behaviour and improve. Employees reactions to the appraisal were influenced by the amount they were able to join in the feedback session, if their future was discussed and if their individual objectives were clarified. The study involved 133 workers, in a Korean petrochemical company.
