A confidence revealed; an in-house lawyer who discloses bias complaints may not be protected from reprisal under Title VII
Article Abstract:
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Douglas v. Dyn McDermott Petroleum Operations criticized an in-house counsel for telling federal regulators about alleged job bias by her employer. The court conceded that counsel's letter detailing such bias detailing such bias was normally a protected activity under Title VII, but held that some opposition activity was so detrimental to an employer that Title VII protection did not apply.

A class offered by Nova Southeastern University's law school in small law firm practice and management, targeted at the majority of the school's students who go on to careers as sole practitioners or to work in small firms, may be one of the few law school courses teaching students these basic practical skills. Supporters claim that understanding law office management helps even those who go on to work for larger firms.
