Complex documents made easy
Article Abstract:
InterActive Professional Software's $595 document assembly software is a good, albeit expensive program, for creating complex documents that are subject to change. The program is organized around the metaphor of the library, with each paragraph, clause or form given its own identity and then placed in a Volume containing related information. The Volume is stored in Library of related Volumes. To create a document, users make pointers that identify specific elements in the Volumes. Pointers for elements stored in different Volumes may be assembled on one screen. Users then add variables indicating where new information will be added, and the program creates the document. First Draft lets users use the same information in many documents, and a Linked Clause feature lets users set up connections between elements in Volumes in a Library. Users will have to spend some time translating their documents into the program's format and learning how to use First Draft.

Charitable giving made easy
Article Abstract:
ViewPlan's $349 BeneQuick provides estate planners with a valuable package for analyzing the potential tax benefits of charitable gifts for donors and charitable institutions. BeneQuick manipulates and presents calculations in a straight forward manner that both average users and attorneys can easily understand. The program allows users to enter current Federal Tax rate data and it provides calculations based on six various charitable planning options. The information revealed for each option includes annual amounts returned to donors or charities, values of gifts, pertinent information about income streams, values of non-charitable gifts and charitable deductions. The information derived from these scenarios is illustrated as either text or pie charts. The program also prints a cover page that corresponds to the chosen scenario and it includes a financial calculator for future value determinations.
