Disney deal done in one long weekend: lawyers work round the clock to accomplish $19 billion takeover of ABC
Article Abstract:
Morton Pierce of law firm Dewey Ballantine and Samuel Butler of Cravath, Swaine & Moore headed the two teams of lawyers that produced in record time the Disney takeover of Capital Cities ABC. The deal, announced July 31, was negotiated and approved in 3.5 days, a near-record for any such deal, let alone the second-biggest ever at $19 billion. The lawyers say Disney chairman Michael Eisner and ABC head Thomas Murphy helped by agreeing in principle beforehand on many potentially sticky areas.
