Hell on wheels
Article Abstract:
French car manufacturer Citroen has taken a very innovative approach in latest television advertising for its Saxo model. The advertisement, created by Euro RSCG Wnek Gosper, is designed to be genuinely frightening. However, care also had to be taken not to put people off buying the car. Citroen wanted to create an upmarket, sexy image for its car, but also had to remain within the guidelines set down by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre.

The advertisement entitled Mermaids was first televised on Feb 25, 1997. In the creation of the commercial, Steve Hudson and Victoria Fallon of BBH chose Michel Gondry to direct. The brief was open, but had to include the phrase 'The original shrink to fit jeans', which ends the commercial.
