STE sets up new distribution outfit

Scottish Television Enterprises has joined forces with state broadcasting firm RTE of Ireland and Barron Entertainment of Australia to create the Cascade distribution and co-production company. Scottish Television International director Ian Jones will be heading Cascade which will act as distributor of Scottish Television International's library. Scottish Television is being rebranded as Cascade with the intent of being flexible enough to collaborate with broadcasters and producers worldwide, indicated Jones.

Mike Phillips was appointed director of international television by BBC Worldwide in July 1998. Phillips was formerly director of the BBC Rights Agency, and his career also includes work for Thames TV. BBC Worldwide aims to increase profit four-fold by the year 2006. Phillips is also expected to boost relations with producers, with plans for greater producer involvement in sales.
