Article Abstract:
There is very strong competition among leading television distributors, producers and broadcasters in the UK to establish a strong position in the natural history programming sector. Animal Planet, a joint venture wildlife channel established by Discovery Communications and the BBC which was launched in Scandinavia on Jul 1, 1997, is set to compete fiercely with National Geographic Channel. This is a joint venture of BSkyB, National Geographic Television and NBC, and will be launched in the UK on Sep 1, 1997. At present, the sector is dominated by Discovery.

BBC1's daytime programmes are to be rescheduled and a complete overhaul may be undertaken in the autumn. This follows ITV's sustained success with its This Morning programme, compared to the BBC's Good Morning With Anne and Nick programme. There are suggestions that several rivals may be seeking to challenge creators Pebble Mill.
