Toon-makers lobby for funding fair deal
Article Abstract:
Animators in the UK are poised to stage a lobbying campaign that is aimed to obtain a fairer deal for animators in present and future measures and to raise the animators' profile. The concept is patterned on a French model, whereby a portion of revenues from advertising and subscription is contributed by broadcasters to a body, which is backed by the government. Then animators can request for 8% to 14% of their production spending. Likewise, the animators are considering to institute UK-originated quotas on broadcasting companies.

BBC1 peaktime slots to get extra resources
Article Abstract:
BBC1 is reportedly poised to receive additional financial allocation for its peaktime schedule, in 1999-2000. Apparently in response to concerns that the firm is over-investing in digital services at the expense of programming for core services, the additional budget supposedly amounts to GBP20 million, with inflation already taken into account. BBC1 has been earmarked GBP783 million in 1997-1998, according to the latest BBC annual report.
