Litton Ingalls unveils DD21 integrated topside demonstration system
Article Abstract:
Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding has unveiled details of its Integrated Topside Demonstration System, a concept for the integrated implementation of vairous technologies for application to the US Navy's new DD 21 land attack destroyer. The system features a structure that is made of composite material and manufactured using a vacuum infusion process. The system has been under development for 18 months in collaboration with other companies, including Radar Laboratory of Raytheon Systems, Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp's Telecommunications Products Div and Temeku Technologies Inc.

Integrating topside design
Article Abstract:
Future warships will require accommodating more communication and sensor systems without compromising on electromagnetic capabilities or radar accuracy, which has led to development of integrated mast and topside design solutions. The challenges faced while developing such designs and proposed solutions to address them are described.

Revolution under the waves

The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Newport Div has launched a research program to study the role of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) in future undersea warfare. The program called the Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Initiatives aims to develop methods and technologies to enable to development of a conceptual UUV with a range of advanced payloads and with capability to deploy at long range into non-permissive operating areas.
