The fall of the Warning Stars
Article Abstract:
The 551st Airborne Early Warning and Control Wing, Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts, lost three EC-121 Warning Star aircraft and 50 airmen in catastrophic overwater accidents over a period of 21 months at the height of the Cold War. A description of the three crashes as recounted by the survivors is presented, together with a discussion on the possible causes of the accidents.
