Asia's crisis fast becoming Labor's problem
Article Abstract:
Labor's 1998 National Conference in Hobart produced scant coherent economic policy from shadow PM Kim Beazley and treasurer Gareth Evans. With the International Monetary Fund demanding balanced budgets throughout East Asia, Labor stands ever-more vulnerable to attacks on fiscal policy. Although Labor leads in recent polls, both parties' private surveys indicate the ruling Coalition is far more trusted on economic policy than Labor.

Labor beware the sins of Saint Cheryl
Article Abstract:
Cheryl Kernot may be a liability rather than an asset for the Australian Labor Party in the next election campaign. Her mistakes at the 1998 convention included her undisciplined response to the media and her inaccurate announcement about her shadow portfolio. She has failed to adjust to Labor Party standards after leaving the Australian Democrats Party.
