Old-time retailers start to hit stride online

Neiman Marcus Co, based in Dallas, TX, will launch on May 12, 2000 its beauty products site for its online business, www.neimanmarcus.com. According to Neiman Marcus CEO Sharen Turney, the retailer did not offer everything when it ventured into e-tailing in Oct 1999 to give them time 'to test and do it right.' Neiman Marcus latest online offerings of luxury products include 60 premium brands from Bliss, Gucci, Lalique Parfums, Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy.

Avon calling: cosmetics giant eyes expansion into department stores
Article Abstract:
Avon is negotiating with Sears, Roebuck and Co and with JC Penney and Co Inc to set up Avon counters in their stores. According to industry experts, Avon's move aims to attract different consumers. Beginning in the second half of 2001, consumers could sample and purchase a full line of Avon products that will be sold in stores. The products would be different from those sold by the company door to door and they would also have a different brand name, packaging and price points.

Soon, on-line groceries will deliver the goods to your door

Whole Foods Market Inc. in Austin, TX, will launch its on-line grocery service called WholeFoods.com nationwide on Mar 22, 1999. The company will initially sell only perishable goods, to be delivered by United Parcel Service. WholeFoods.com will ship its products from Texas Health Distributors, a distribution center owned by Whole Foods Markets. The company is planning to form a partnership with other food companies once it starts shipping perishable products.
