Dollar's rise has businesses seeking prosperity at home
Article Abstract:
The dollar's long decline from 1991 to 2002 led to a faster expansion in Canada's gross domestic product, faster than home demand, because the export growth was quit upbeat. The higher dollar has left Canada facing a pulling adjustment from an economy dependent on foreigners for growth to one that will be forced to be more reliant on its own business and consumers for future prosperity.

Inflation dips to lowest level since '62
Article Abstract:
Canada's inflation rate has dipped to 0.6% in Jan 1999, down from 1% in Jan 1998. The inflation rate was its lowest level since May 1962, when year-over-the-year rise in consumer prices dropped to 0.5%. Several analysts urged the Bank of Canada to cut interest rates to stimulate the economy on fear that the low inflation could worsen into deflation.
