Gates predicts big things from small devices

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes that the high-technology world is moving rapidly toward collaborative computing or customized software with rich voice, graphics and video uses on millions of computers cellphones, hand-held devices and other products linked to the Internet. Gates also launched a polished prototype of a Web tablet PC, an 8-by-11-in device with high-powered computing for the office and the home, at Comdex. Honeywell and Ricochet have also introduced similar devices at the conference but Microsoft's formidable presence will give tremendous clout and brand might to the emerging market.

Race issues shake tech world
Article Abstract:
The number of racial discrimination lawsuits and complaints being filed by minority employees in the high technology industry has risen. Problems such as racism, hostile workplaces and blatant discrimination in the hiring and promotion of Hispanics and African-Americans are cropping up in an industry which has often been touted as the ultimate meritocracy. A study of 250 Silicon Valley firms has shown that only 4% were black and 8% were Hispanic.
