IDS's sweeter deal lands Scintrex
Article Abstract:
Ottawa, Canada-based IDS Intelligent Detection Systems Inc. has reached a deal with Concord, Ontario, Canada-based Scintrex Ltd. regarding its hostile C$45-million offer. Marathon talks have resulted to Dr. Siegel and Abe Rolnick, president and chief executive officer of Scintrex, tendering their shares to IDS's revised offer. Under the new offer, IDS lowered the valuation placed on each of its shares to C$6.99 from C$7.75. Scintrex Chairman Dr. Harold Seigel said the firm need to reach an understanding because it lacked a superior offer that could have defeated IDS's application to nullify its poison pill.

Americans taking harder hit at gas pumps
Article Abstract:
Gasoline prices in the US have increased to record levels in the first quarter of 2004, rising three times as fast as in Canada. The widely varying standards have increased production costs, further boosting gasoline prices, and have also created 'boutique markets' for gasoline, partly because 17 states have banned the use of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).
