Article Abstract:
America Online Inc's (AOL) plan to acquire Netscape Communications for $4 bil and to license the latter's corporate software to Sun Microsystems is eliciting different reactions in the computer industry. According to one industry observer, the yet to be announced deal is a very strategic move designed to rival industry giant Microsoft, which is busy battling several antitrust suits. However, other analysts believe the deal could also bring problems to AOL, particularly in its plan to buy Sun's license and resell Netscape's software to corporate servers.
