Lawsuit likely as Microsoft talks collapse
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Corp.'s antitrust lawsuit is expected to be filed by the US Justice Department and 20 states following the failure of the negotiation talks between the company executives and government officials. Microsoft's Jeff Raikes reported that the company was willing to discuss the removal of the Internet Explorer browser from the PC screen. The talks were terminated when the regulators insisted on including rival Netscape's browser. Government officials in the negotiations said the idea of replacing Microsoft's Explorer with the Netscape browser was discussed. They, however, said it was not a demand.

Injunction may define outcome for Microsoft
Article Abstract:
Microsoft's antitrust lawsuit could be decided early on if the government is granted a preliminary injunction as soon as June 1998, according to experts. Antitrust lawyer, Howard Morse, said that with the preliminary injunction, Microsoft will be forced by the government and 20 US states to open key markets to competitors until completion of a trial. On the other hand is the possibility that the company will further leverage its monopoly. The government is expected to request for the injunction before the shipping of Windows 98 on Jun. 25, 1998.
