More Firestone tires peel
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone/Firestone tires that have not been recalled have experienced peeling treads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has published data showing that at treads separated on at least 7,500 tires that are not among the 6.5 million recalled in Aug 2000. Tread separation problems are more common with light-truck tires since those tires are designed for off-road use and are subjected to harsher conditions. Bridgestone/Firestone has repeatedly stated that it has the largest number of tread separation reports on the recalled tires since it produced the greatest number of those tires.

Firestone picks up pace of recall
Article Abstract:
Bridgestone/Firestone Inc announced on Aug 14 that it will hasten the recall of its tires involved in tread-separation accidents and complaints. The company said it expects to accomplish its recall of at least 6.5 million tires by the start of next summer. It intends to recall tires first in Arizona, Florida, California and Texas, later to seven other southern and southwestern states and then to the rest of the US. However, attorneys general of several states have threatened to sue Firestone if they are not immediately included in the list of states included in the initial recall schedule.

Company to replace Navigator tires
Article Abstract:
Continetal General Tire Inc has announced the recall of 140,000 tires on Lincoln Navigator vehicles and 20,000 sold as replacement tires after discovering that these tires have weak heat stress that can cause tire tread to come off. The defective tires are the 16-inch ContiTrac tires in size P245/75R-16 that were made before Mar 1998. The tiremaker asks consumers who have these defective tires to go to Lincoln dealerships for free replacement tires.
