The Serbs pull back; Russia fumes, but NATO appears to get its way

Serbs agreed to withdraw artillery from Sarajevo in response to a NATO air bombing campaign that began Aug 30, 1995. Although the NATO bombing appears to have furthered the peace process, Russia voiced strong objections to the bombing. Some observers fear this could escalate tensions in the region.

Northern Ireland peace negotiations broke down after the IRA set off a bomb in London on Feb 9, 1996, that killed two people. A second bomb was found and defused one week later in London, raising fears that the bombing will continue unless Sinn Fein is incorporated into the peace process.
