General elections in the Netherlands, May 1994: the triumph of grey liberalism
Article Abstract:
The elections to the second chamber held in 1994 saw the Labour Party being reduced to 37 seats while the Christian Democrats reached an all time low of 34 seats. The two liberal parties together increased their tally to 55, and the Centre Democrats with its support of ethnocentrism and xenophobic policies also gained. The green parties lost due to the lack of a charismatic leadership. The elections of 1994 was fought mainly on grey issues like economic growth, jobs, social security and xenophobia. It is yet to be seen how the Democrats 66 party will perform after joining the government.

Biodiversity since Rio
Article Abstract:
The Convention on Biological Diversity was agreed in 1992, and is in force alongside other agreements on wildlife conservation. African elephants and whales are examples of two types of animals that have received extensive media coverage. There are divisions on the issue of whaling, with Norway and Japan seeking to resume the practice, and they may have to be permitted to do so to encourage them to stay within the International Whaling Commission. There is also a debate on whether trade in ivory should be resumed, as numbers of African elephants are recovering in some locations.

Animals, politics and justice: Rawlsian liberalism and the plight of non-humans
Article Abstract:
Rawl's liberal contratarian political theory is illegitimately, unfriendly to the protection of animal interest. According to Rawl, animals are not a beneficiary of contractual agreements made in the original position and hence denies animals an elevated moral status.
