Local policy for the global environment: In search of a new perspective
Article Abstract:
British local government has been instrumental in the care of the local environment and is now placing new emphasis of local action for the global environment. A cultural politics approach allows local authorities to be viewed as a forum where technocentric and ecocentric interpretations of sustainability compete, and contest established non-sustainable approaches.

Talking past each other: local environmentalists in different organisational contexts
Article Abstract:
A good perspective on environmental concerns can be gained in an organizational context. Local goverments can achieve an integrated environmental policy and gain a strategic role in conservation by networking and working around the potential conflicts brought on by organizational contraints and differing policy goals.

An overview is presented on the growing opposition within European Union countries to genetically modified crops, due to potential health and environmental hazards. The economic threat posed by commercially backed transgenic crop research to small-sized and local farming is also examined.
