Article Abstract:
The impact of the policies of the U.S. and the People's Republic of China (PRC) on Taiwanese nationalism is examined using quantitative data. The examination has found that PRC military actions directed at forcing Taiwan into submission and explicit U.S. expressions of commitment to defend Taiwan has increased the tendency of those in Taiwan to identify themselves as Taiwanese and desire independent statehood.
